2009 W211 drivers side ticking noise when driving on bumpy roads :( argh!!!

Hello, I tried exhaustively to find posts related to a ticking noise that I'm getting on the driver's side when driving on bumpy roads or occasional bumps. It's definitely not a suspension issue. It seems to be coming from the top steering column trim just behind the steering wheel.....or from the instrument cluster. I pulled out the cluster bezel and drove with it removed....noise is still there. the turn signal seems to be tight.....so I don't think that's the issue. If definitely not the HVAC .

The noise can be described as a "tick" similar to the tick tick tick from the turn signal...but it is inconsistent. Almost seems like its within the steering column trim or inside the instrument cluster.

This seriously drives me nutz. Any ideas where this can be coming from.

Cheers
