Any MB Dealer Mechanics here ? gotta a question....

My 2012 ML63 is in for a new starter at 31k miles... The MB dealer is pulling the motor to swap it out.

Service Writer say's the starter gets over heated and fails in this model, there is a newer version they are going to install that won't fail so early due to heat

1) Is there really a newer model starter ?

2) Is pulling the motor really required to swap the starter ?

Thanks for any help,

Mike

sigh.... not helpful my friend...

I like to have answers to these questions before I ask the questions to the dealer to see if they are being truthful...

Hoping I can get a real reply to this before i go to the dealer today...

Mike

P.S. Been trying to find service manuals online i can review but no luck so far.... older stuff i can find but nothing for a 2012 ML63...

I'm guessing that hole in the back in the bell housing is for the starter..... Looks like a 4matic version as well.....

Still can't tell if ya really meed to pull the motor to swap a starter though...
