Help- 2006 c240 transmission

I have a 2006 c240 and I've been having this problem for a while with sort of sporadic symptoms so I need help nailing down where the problem is coming from. It started a few months ago where every once in a while when shifting from park to reverse or drive the car would jerk in that direction then go into limp home mode. (The dash also displays that im still in drive when im not) Then to put the car back into park i have to take my foot off the brake instead of having my foot on the brake. In addition most of the time the car wants to start in limp home mode but sometimes it doesn't. The times that it starts normal, the transmission shifts from 1st to 4th gear without a problem. But when I then try to go into reverse it then usually goes back into limp home mode. Also this tends to be happen more when its hotter outside. Just a general observation though, not sure on the correlation. I would appreciate any help with this problem. Thanks!

The only correct approach that will save you time is have the car diagnosed. Is it the shifter, conductor plate or mechanical issues. Then you can make the decision as to whether you want to fix the problem yourself-------all else is wasting time on HS.
