Tire Wear

MB Tech help, please for '03 C230 coupe rear tire wear.

The long story is on The Tire Rack Forum. Short story: H-rated Michelin tires after 7000 miles had 8/32" of tread left on front and rears. Switched to 17" yokohamas, Z-rated which wore out on the rear in short order (less than 10,000 miles). Re-installed the Michelins and rotated them. After 4000 miles the rears are down to 5/32" from 8/32" and the fronts are at 7/32" from 8/32". Any reason why the fronts after 7000 miles on rear and 4000 miles on front have 7/32" left but the rears after 7000 miles on front and 4000 miles on rear are down to 5/32"? Being a rear wheel drive vehicle I would think the tires that were on the rear the most miles would have the most wear. Any idea why the rear wear has suddenly increased?
Alignment has been checked 3 times in last 4500 miles by two shops (MB service and an idependent) and is in spec. Air pressure maintained at 30psi front and 32 psi rear. Type and style of driving has remained constant for this vehicle.

this car is used for commuting to and from work. not hot rodding. 11000 miles, same roads, same type of driving, same tires, first 7000 miles on rear used 2/32" of tire tread, next 4000 miles used 3/32" of tire tread. this is an unusual increase that might possibly have a mechanical explanation, that's what i'm asking.
thanks for your input, but it does not apply in this case.

Are they wearing evenly across the width of each tire?

yes the wear pattern is even across the width of the tire and each tire shows the same amount of wear. any ideas?

This may not apply in your case , but I've seen this in motorcycle tires all the time... Seems after the first 60% of tread life has burned away the remaining goes very fast... I'm not sure if your case has a "mechanical" reason or not, but perhaps it has to do with the construction of the tire or perhaps the weight of the vehicle on less rubber equals more tread wear???
I would think you would see more wear on the front in any case as the front end is heavier than the rear and the g-forces of braking and turning transfers all the weight up front.
