instrument cluster

so the dealer replaced my ic due to electrical shortage under warranty. before when i used the blinker the time and gear display would blink.

this new one works fine and looks good but the other day when i was cleaning the plastic shield i encountered a problem. as i was putting pressure on the shield i could see the amb. temp display fade in and out.

the best way of describing the fading is like when you push on a calculator screen and see the display fade. almost a liquid fade.

i called the dealer and set up an appt.
i was wondering if anyone knew why it would do that because the original cluster never did that.
i hope that i do not have to wait for them to order and install another cluster. hopefully it's just poor installation and all they have to do is to readjust the screen.

by the way, how much does a new cluster cost if i had to buy it out of warranty?

A new IC is $$$$. But the temperature display is the same liquid cristal display as you find in you laptop computer or calculator and it does the same when you press it. So DONT do this. The only thing I'm wondering is, is there not supposed an additional plastic cover infront of the displays and clocks? I dont own a C-class, so I could not check.

my sa told me that it is one whole piece, no seperate plastic cover that comes off. he said not to touch it so hard. still under warranty for now so he told me to keep an eye on it. if the display goes bad totally come back and he will replace it again. does this sound reasonable to you guys?

just got my spark plugs and fuel filters replaced for 530 dollars. he gave me a break on the labor or else it would have been 700 hundred. what do you guys think about that? is he pulling my leg?
he gave me a discount because last time he gouged my door panel on the last service.

530 dollars!? Fuel filters are not big items, unless there is something bizarre about yours and the fuel delivery system.

And he gave you a break because he damaged your door panel? He should have replaced the damn thing!

he would have replaced the door panel...he asked if i wanted to. it was only two little marks the size of the tip of a screw driver. he got the marks out with a heat gun.
the fuel filter and its related brackets were 150 in parts alone.
