Collision Avoidance

I have a 2017 E300 sedan with collision avoidance (brake assistance). I decided to test this system by placing two empty cardboard boxes each about 3 feet square in the road. Then I approached the boxes at about 20 mph. The car did not detect the boxes and crashed right through them. Anyone know why the car did not detect the boxes?

2018 GLE 43 AMG
Thats a good idea, I was trying to think of a way to test my 2018 GLE. I am not confident it is working. I have all the collision avoidance options available and when I pull in the garage it doesn't feel like its sensing the approaching wall. Hopefully someone will reply to your question. Sorry I couldn’t help but thought I would jump on to see what answer you get.
