​​​​​​Have everything I need to change my 2011 E350 722.960 trans fluid but have a few questions.

1. My Mityvac had some old trans fluid in it. Is it really necessary to completly clean the mityvac of old fluid? Thought here is all of the lines in the car will still contain old fluid so what is the point in cleaning the Mityvac. It will take too long for me to properly clean and dry my MV. I don't believe a small amount of old fluid will do any harm, but correct me if I'm wrong.

2. Everyone says to measure the amount you take out and replace with that amount + 1L. Well my trans has a slight leak which has been going on for too long to be honest with you. Not bad enough to see drops on pavement, but the pan is wet. So I really don't know if what I extract is enough. With this said should I just pump in 9-10L and run the STAR procedure?

I know my system is 8.5L but you're essentially saying to not follow the MB procedure and just add 8-8.5L and call it a day.

So I guess my question is does anyone see a risk at filling 9-10L and letting the system run while the correct fluid temp is reached before I can drain? Maybe 9 is the max I should fill to be on the safe side of blowing any seal or is that unlikely?

You clearly do not know the procedure for a w212. Take a look at yourself before you start calling people idiots. All those post doesn't mean you know what you're talking about. The only way to measure on a w212 is to overfill, run to 45C and drain until the stream trickles out.

I am glad to see you actually did some research before spewing inaccurate information this time. I am also looking at http://weistec.com/forms/weistec7229servicedata.pdf with your quoted procedure, but it is the first I have heard of pumping 6L then letting it warm up, then pumping the remaining 4 (if I wasn't draining the TC then why am I even bothering). If you feel like dismounting your high horse I would ask what is the point of pumping the first 6 and letting it get to temp just to have it cool again? Is it to prevent too much fluid in the pan before it can be cycled through the TC?

All of the procedures I have read just pump 9-9.5 on the first go. I was misinformed thinking my capacity was 8.5 after reading various diy post (they just drain 8.5 on average), but I do see where it is 9.7 in the posted reference. Thanks for confirming this, even if you're a dick. I still do not think I want to pump 10L into my system considering that procedure is for an initial charge of the transmission.

But again, with your infinite wisdom, what is the reasoning for pumping 6L first? I know the warming/cooling evolution will be very time consuming and just want to make sure there is valid reasoning for it.
