E350 convertible

Hello, I drive my E350 in eco mode which is switched on via a button below the radio. On the dash is a Green E recently while driving a red S appears and the green E goes, what is this?

When the green E changes to a red S, this indicates that the drive mode has changed from Eco to Sport.

There are two switches that are related to the drive mode:
  1. On the lower center dashboard stack, in the row of silver switches that include the seat heater and seat ventilator controls, there is an Eco switch that illuminates with a green LED when the engine's automatic start/stop mode is activated. When this switch is lit, the engine may shut off automatically to save fuel whenever the car comes to a stop (e.g., at a traffic light). It will not necessarily shut off every time, as the auto-off feature is governed by a variety of factors (e.g., engine temperature, cabin temperature vs. AC setting, etc.).
  2. On the console, to the left of the COMAND rotary control knob, is a black button with a circular label that features the letters E, S, and M. This is the drive mode select button; each time it is pressed, the drive mode switches between Eco, Sport, and Manual modes and the indicator light in the center of the instrument cluster changes accordingly. When in Eco, the car's computer adjusts the engine and transmission for maximum fuel economy. When in Sport mode, the car's computer adjusts the engine and transmission for maximum performance. When in Manual mode, the car's computer deactivates automatic transmission shifts and activates the paddle shifters on the steering wheel, so that the driver can shift the car manually.
