Key Fob Works Once and Then Nothing

Car is a 2002 CLK320. The issue that I am having is that key fob #2 will work once and then stops working. You have to take the battery cartridge out, slide it back in, and then the key functions again but only one time. It's very odd. It's like the key works the one time but then resets so the car doesn't recognize it. Some added details below:

Key fob batteries are new.
Cars battery is completely fine.
Key fob light will flash but only the one time when it is working but then no more red light.
Key fob #1 has no issues at all.

Any thoughts on this? Any logical reason why the key can be made active again simply by removing the battery insert and plugging it back into they fob?

Have you considered that the key could be faulty or something in the central locking system is faulty----get a second job and get the car properly diagnosed. The FUYA approach only goes so far!

Get a second job? Wow very helpful. Clearly you can't turn a wrench to save your life. Half the fun is figuring out solutions on your own or thru this community.

If you were diagnosing a 1980's car I would agree with you, however with a 2002 MB and a complicated CL system, you will putz for weeks and never find the fault without the diagnostics---park the car and let the neighborhood kids work on the car.
