Well actually its only AM doesn't work when the headlights are on.
Anyone else heard of or seen this problem? My '03 SL500 has been at the dealership for 3 weeks and they still haven't figured it out.
As soon as you turn on the headlights the radio, if it's on AM, goes completely static. The dealership said it doesnt happen on any other car they have. Just checking to make sure thats true.

Sounds like your losing power to the antenna amplifier.
If the antenna was shorted, the FM would work, but the AM would not.
The antenna on your car used for Nav & Telephone also?
Maybe it's a bad ground?

So far they have replaced the antenna amp, and some cable splitters or something. They have also checked everywhere they can think of for bad grounds.
I am just trying to figure out what they are going to do if they can fix it.

The 12v for the antenna amp, should come the connector on the back of the radio.
There is also a wire from the lights on the connector to the radio.
With the radio on, does the 12V,, at the antenna amp go away, when the lights are turned on?
