2000-2002 SOS TeleAid light
Is the red light in the SOS button supposed to be on or off when driving, if one in NOT subscribed to TeleAid?
I took my 2000 E430 4Matic to the dealer because this light intermitently stayed on along with the "i" and wrench lights illuminating red. They found fault with the control module and replaced it under warranty. Now the red SOS light stays on all the time, the "i" and wrench lights are clear (not red). The dealer said to bring it back and they'll check the version coding.
Where this has never worked right, I don't know what's normal.

My red SOS light stays on all the times since I am not subscribed to TeleAid. I read somewhere (I think the owner manual) that the SOS light will stays on at all time if one is Not subscribed to TeleAid.

Sometimes the SOS light is bright red, pale red or not illuminated at all. Dealer changed out two modules under warranty but the inconsistent illumination is the same and tele-aid service is still intermittent.
Anyone know for sure?

The SOS button light is bright red when the headlights are not on. The SOS light is dimmed when the headlights are turned on. (No way to change that). When the car is being turned ON the "i and wrench will gow red for a few seconds and then turn orange" And then when you press either i or the wrench they will glow red.

On my w220, with headlights off, when first starting the car, the SOS light is bright red, then turns off completely. With the headlights on it is a dim red. the i and wrench buttons glow orange only when the headlights are on, otherwise they are not illuminated.
