Need a Tech to Explain Tire Press. Mon. System - '04 E500
The TPM always displays some values for tire pressures when you scroll to them on the display... I'm trying to figure out if they are an accurate up to the minute reading of the pressures in the tires or just some random readings, here's why....
The reason for my confusion is because if you scroll to the TPM screen & press the R(eset) button, you are asked if you WANT to check the tire pressure Yes + or No - ... If you say yes, you get a screen that says something like "Tire pressure wil be displayed after driving around for a few minutes. Press R to reactivate TPM"
Therefore, it appears to me that you must scroll to the TPM screen, Press R to initiate a reading & wait for a few minutes while you drive, (sometimes much more than a few minutes) which will yield a current hot tire pressure reading, not a cold tire pressure reading, which is the usual pressure used when discussing tire inflation pressures. If this IS the case, then what are the numbers that are displayed when you get into the car & just randomly scroll to the TPM screen? It seems to me the system expects to be ASKED to check the tire pressures, and then displays hot tire pressures. right?
I ask because I have been receiving random "Check Tire Pressure, 1 Malfunction" screens, & when I check by the method above, I get tire pressures of 34 - 35 lbs, which IS a little high, but they are HOT tire pressures, not cold...
Anyway, do I understand the operation correctly?

You Should Only Have To Reactivate The Tpc System After One Or More Tires Have Gone Below The Pressure Warning Limit, Then Recorrect The Pressures And Reactivate The System. That Is When You Select Yes To Monitor Current Pressures.
While Driving The System Will Show Increased Pressure From Heat Build Up.
IF YOU GET REPEATED DISPLAYS OF A MALFUNCTION BUT TIRE PRESSURES ARE GOOD, THEN YOU NEED TO TAKE IT TO YOUR NEAREST DEALER
