W220 COMAND knob melting / peeling

Wondering if anyone has encountered this: the rubber on the COMAND rotating knob is sticky and peeling off. Dealer said it was not covered under warranty because either I got lotion on it or a cleaning solvent. I have done neither but suspect it may just be from very frequent use. Dealer said knob was not replaceable and would have to replace the entire COMAND unit.

Is it possible to replace just the knob or are they correct? Thanks in advance.

There is no separate part number for the knob. Only the whole unit is available.

I would attempt to try another dealer. I think they should put it though warranty for you.

My wife has acidic skin that eats leather and rubber. It does happen. Since this is rare, they are telling you that you did it.

Have you tried pulling the knob off? Maybe you can find something that will replace it?

Now don't go to the dealship and pull one off a used car and swap yours !!

??

I tried pulling the knob off, but it won't budge. I'm guessing that it is all one part (knob and rotary selector inside the COMAND)
