M104 3.2L worn valves at 99K!

Has anyone ever seen an M104 do this?:

What you are seeing: Valve on right is worn, sitting lower into the cylinder head. You can see the "cupping" that is happening on the surface of the valve. The seats may be salvageable without serious modification. It looked like only a few cylinders are having the issue. ALL exhaust valves are perfect.

A couple of questions: Was there ever a recall on cylinder heads for this? or a TSB? and Does anyone have a good resource for finding new intake valves?

Car is a 1993 300 SE
Thanks for looking!

Update on this. 6 intake valves are salvageable. so Installed them back in the head and lapped them into place. 6 new valves are on the way. I made sure to use old valves where the seat may not have been in the greatest of shape as to not instantly ruin a new valve. So far lapping them is doing the trick just fine.. getting good contact all the way around. I'm rather impressed with how things are going back together. Not sure how a valve gets so worn out after 99k.. The car shows a lot of signs of living on a dirt road, so it could very well be that they ran it without an air filter for some time.. the grit will eventually eat away at valves.

Here's hoping that it doesn't continue to eat valves!

Nice progress. What is the estimated fire up the engine date?

If the valves get here this week, I should have it all together by the weekend some time. I'll try and get a video!

I was about to go on a rant... then this morning got an email from FCP euro saying they were able to ship all 6 of the valves I needed.

I'm quite certain I have the only 6 valves available for this engine... at least in the USA.

the part number for them is 1110530101, They are special because of the "double groove" keeper.. which is probably part of the reason the valves wore so fast, because this keeper allows extra-free rotation of the valve and valve spring.

So earlier this week when searching, I called up 3 sources which each claimed to have 6 valves.. one didn't pick up, but the other 2 both said they only had 5 in stock! FIVE! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THAT?!?!

So I went to FCP euro, whom I typically dont use due to higher prices, and ordered 6. I tried to call them first and got stuck on their automated call center.. so I bit the bullet and ordered six from them. A day later, I got an email from them saying it shipped. "YESSS!" I yelled with enjoyment, only to open the email and see that they only shipped ONE.. and the rest were TBD "CURSE YOU!" I yelled in anger!

So this morning I came into work all prepared to spend hours on the phone with them. The plan was to order 1 from them, and 5 from that other supplier. But low and behold, FCP came through and some how found me 5 more valves and they are now on their way! I just hope they get here this weekend!!

-more to come.
