Any ideas why this only happens in the morning/cold? (ABS/ESP/Drive to workshop)

Any ideas why this only happens in the morning/cold? (ABS/ESP/Drive to workshop)
Every morning, when the car is cold here in Colorado (10-40 degrees F) when I start the car I get the flashing/alternating "ABS/ESP inoperative, see operators manual", followed by "Drive to workshop without shifting gears" in red.
Then, if I disconnected the battery, reconnect it, the car started normally and drives fine.
This has now happened for about two weeks, every day, without fail.
Ideas?
I've got the car scheduled in to the shop next week but would like to either troubleshoot first, or at least have an idea what to tell them to look for.
(It only happens in the morning, when the car is completely cold. It has never happened later in the day.)
I've checked battery voltage pre-start and it was about 12.0v. Once running, it's at around 13.75 with alternator output.
Then, if I disconnected the battery, reconnect it, the car started normally and drives fine.
