what's the best lubricant for a creaking door when you open it? I tried WD-40, it only made it worse. lithium, silicone?thanks!

I use Triflow...WD 40 is more of a cleaner. Got it back where I raced mtn. bikes. Make sure you do not get any on the paint
thanks! I have also read on this forum about using vaseline....I tried that, but it didn't help at all. The metal arm that helps the door stay open, and stops it from opening too far, is where the sound is coming from, at least that's what I think. Could is be the door hinges themselves? Just curious...thanks again

it could be from the hinges...this is what you do...take off the vaseline... then get the pure silicone spray, and apply to all areas that move.... swing door open and shut a bunch of times... respray...done.Originally Posted by akbro93704

(I didn't ask how to spray/where to spray it, if that means anything) Originally Posted by akbro93704

What I mean by saying "I would have done that anyways" is that I would have sprayed the silicone the way you said to spray it(on all moving parts)...I didn't mean that I already knew about and was going to use silicone spray. Sorry for the misunderstanding!

I have never had much lasting success with lubricating a door check. If its the hinge squeaking, lube it and it will be fine. If the door check is noisy, replacing it is usually the best route.

I'd use Something more heavy-bodied - one of my favorite, is a Spray lubricant used on boats called lano-cote leaves lanolin lubricant non greasy does not stain clothes clear etc.
