M113 4.3 5.0 5.4 exterior indication

I have been wondering if there’s anyway to distinguish each variant of the m113 engine. Do you guys know of any cast marks or any tell tell signs?

If you have VIN numbers they can be put into a decoder to identify engine.

If you have engine numbers, likely the same information can be obtained.

If you have neither, what information do you have to work with?

This post shows an engine number near the engine mount bracket: https://www.benzworld.org/threads/m1...-same.2988037/

I just checked my W166 GLE350 and was not able to see an engine number on the block because too many other components are blocking the view.

Interesting I have a C 55 AMG, next time I get under I’m going to check next the motor mounts to see if I see any indication of it being a 5.4 block, since these cars are getting older I know that the chances that the engine has been swapped is higher. So being able to know that the right block was put in would be very assuring. Thanks
