OM651 - B60 (exhaust back pressure sensor)

Hey guys,

I am at a dead end. I have replaced the sensor with OM from a local dealer. The sensor shows perfect live readings. Car drives well, however, when I drive for a while(30-40km) and when I turn off the engine. Sometimes when I start it again within a few minutes the car goes into limp mode with p047128 code(the signal offset is outside the permissible range) until I restart the engine. What I have discovered is that when I put the key in ignition on, with the engine not running(0rpms)the readings are high from the sensor. The moment the engine is started the values come to normal. However, that is enough to get the car in limp.

Is it possible that there is an issue with the wirings to the sensor and when they are heated to show different voltage/readings?

This screenshot shows the high value at ignition on/engine off.

The moment the engine is started it goes back to normal reading(close to atmospheric pressure at idle).

Any idea what could be the problem?

The exhaust backpressure sensor(b60) is located on the EGR pipe(right back side of the engine) It is easily accessible but you need 24mm deep socket for it. The pressure sensor should be showing atmospheric pressure with the ignition on/engine off. If you are close to sea level it should show about 15PSI. I guess yours is fine.

E220
Hi, I am having exactly the same issues with my e220. Did you ever get to the bottom of what the issues is? Was it the sensor inside the engine bay? If had two other sensors replaced , differential sensor and back pressure one.

I haven't fixed it but it hasn't occurred recently as well. From the information, I have gathered so far, it appears to be a wiring/plug issue. Spraying the plug with contact spray/cleaner as well as checking the wires about 20 cm from the plug and possibly replacing them. It is not a sensor fault or clogged tube as it reads normal parameters. If the tube is clogged or the sensor is faulty the problem would occur all the time.

https://*******.com/Thread-OM642-err...9-3-0cdi-224km this guy had the same issue and fixed it by replacing the turbo vgt on my c220 w203 i have the same issue and it was all caused bcs of the dpf filter gases where pushing back on the engine blowing off a tube in the turbo and the odb would always show the b60 sensor, replaced the sensor 2 times, cleaned dpf replaced the turbo tube now b60 put the car in limp mode (didnt happen before after replacing it)
