I just started a section on my website for Mercedes Benz Install Documents.

I have a site dedicated to my other car (1999 Z28), but now that my warranty has expired on our C240 (and my wife has given me permission ), I have started a site for MB's.

We own a C240 so the site will be geared toward's it, but all install doc's will be accepted.

I am also asking that any help anyone can offer in the way of advice, photographs, part numbers, totally written install doc's , please contact me via email.

The first install I am going to tackle is is the fuel level sensors. My dealer quoted us $740 to replace them. Ouch!!! I think they use gold plated tools. Hence the reason for the site.

The address is www.installuniversity.com

Below is the quote the dealship gave us.

Fuel Level Sensor
Part #: 2034703041 $230
Part #: 2034703594 $195
Labor: $292

The dealership is saying one is in the tank, and one is outside the tank. When my wife called for the quote and mentioned we may do the install ourselves, which shocked the service advisor, they told us one of the sensors was inside the tank and would require us to go "into" the tank.

What does anyone make of this? Do they not know what they are talking about as I thought there was a left and a right sensor under the seat? Do these look like the correct part numbers? I have them on order and should have them fairly soon. I just want to remove the seat one time and get this overwith so we can have a concrete answer for everyone and my gauge working properly again.

Hi Eric,
I have read your protocol for the fuel sensor replacement very carefully and it has been of great help to me. My C320 was with CEL on for a week or so and the dealership has diagnosed faulty fuel level sensor. They have quoted the unbelievable price of $960 (parts and labor) plus $180 for the diagnostics. Fortunately I saw your posting and I said to myself why not to have a look personally underneath the back seat. Nobody will believe what I found after removing the plate covering the fuel sensor at the left (driver) side. One of the cables, belonging to the four-pin connector was teared off, and looked like chewed up by a mouse. Quite possible because the German engineers left a the space at this place, underneath the covering plate and the gas tank, open to the outside. I have sealed it with penoplast but now I am looking to find and replace the whole wiring harness of the pump/sensor assembly. Any idea or suggestion?

I too believe your forum on replaceing the fuel pump on my w203 was very helpful. My only problem is that since I changed both right and left side units, the fuel gauge hasnt read correctly. When I fill up it says 3/4 full and at some point the gauge fluctuates on and off. I dont think the gauge went out as it worked fine before the pump swap. I have tried repositioning the sending units in a variety of positions but the reading stays the same. Do you have any idea what my problem would be?
