Would an ESP control unit from a RWD version of the same car work in a 4MATIC?

Or are the ESP modules programmed specifically for 4matic vehicles. Refurbished ESP units on ebay seem to treat RWD and 4Matic as interchangeable.
A feature of the 4matic system is if any four wheel is slipping, ESP locks it up kind of like a makeshift differential lock - I'm not sure if this is something the standard ESP would do any way and that the front wheels would just also be spinning with 4matic.
Basically I'd like to put a W204 C63 ESP control unit in my C300 4matic for the parametric steering (and possibly two stage traction control). Just wondering if this would work ok.

When I looked up the various information for your car - several parts noted code M005 denoting 4Matic and I think ECUs were both engine and drivetrain specific. Make sure you run your VIN through www.lastvin.com to get your data sheet.

Or go to mbepc.net and run your car by VIN and go to the datacard. In the top description block, you can then jump to the parts catalog. Alternatively, search by the part number and you can see which other models used the same part number.
