owners manual has chart based on ambient temperature which oil works,

Lots of overlap, really only shows itself on the very cold part of temp chart.
Most can handle upper temps

Owners manual chart is no help - shows no less than 10 options with incomplete upper temps.
I am asking for less ambiguous info here.
thanks

They do not show upper limits since all are good for any max ambient temperature a car could see

So what is lowest temps you expect to perform an engine start-up?
And choose based on that or the first number.

Second number is really up to you.
30 weight is thinner then 50 so lower oil pressure but better mpg then 50.
But both are acceptable per MB.

ask your dealer what they use

Most use a 5w-40 seems to be popular.

It’s 5W-40 MB-Approval 229.5

Where are you located? My US Owner’s manual does not list 10 viscosities.

On PDF page 43 at the link below, the literature clearly lists 0W-40 or 5W-40. I use 5W-40 because I think 0W-40 is suitable only for extremely cold climates.
