Hi All, I'm thinking of buying a 2010 E550 with 17K miles, and the owner sent me a bunch of pics of the underside. The first pic is also of the top of the engine with the engine cover tilted upward. Any chance that much dirt on the underside of the engine cover was caused by flooding?
Kinda curious what others might think if this. It seems like an awful lot of dirt for 17K miles... The miles seem legitimate based on the CarFax. Thank you!

It’s an old car. Looks normal, like an old car does.

Any damage due to flooding must be recorded on the title of the car if it was every reported. That includes water seeping in and puddling in the floor pans. Also, I think the seller must disclose if it has been in a flood if asked.
That said, where has the car been driven? Seattle or someplace that gets a lot of rain? If the owner was trying to deceive you, I would think they would have cleaned it up (pressure wash at a DIY carwash place).
Thanks for the replies. I ended up buying the car and it definitely was not in a flood. I was just being a bit paranoid based on the photos, as I had not yet seen the car.
The car was historically driven in northwest AR, where I did see a few stories about flooding. But there were no peculiar odors, no dirt/silt etc. in carpets, or underneath carpets in the passenger compartment or trunk. And yeah, I agree with you, JettaRed- the owner probably would not have showed me those photos if he knew the car was in a flood!
