Is there such thing as a "special key" for modern Mercedes cars?

If you read the EIS with MB star or a code scanner, in a 2008 W204 for example, there are 8 key slots and 1 and 2 are shown as "enabled" and "used" that are the two regular keys. However there is also a slot above key slot 1 that reads "special key". Does anyone know what this is for? Is there such thing as a special key that is used by the factory or techs?

On a separate note, I noticed this black style key in a 2012 S550. It may be different than the special key and just a MB Sprinter style key that somehow got programmed to the car. Anyone know?
