ESL emulator issue or something else?
Hi folks, hoping this is the appropriate forum.
I have 2010 GLK 350 4 Matic that had failing ESL (no click sound, blank dashboard, no start). I had the exact same thing happen 7 or so years ago and at that time had the dealer fix the issue (dealer installed a new ESL and programming).
This time, I had a local-ish guy program an emulator (plastic one shaped just like OEM ESL) from my EIS and key. The emulator worked fine the first time. However, the second time, the car did not start (same blank dashboard like dying OEM ESL exhibited). After many unsuccessful attempts, I found that I was able to start the car by turning the key and going through the lock/accessory/on/start cycle 3 times without pulling the key out of of EIS.
Once started, the stored codes I pulled with my basic code scanner (iCarsoft MB II) showed the following:
U016800: Communication with the electronic ignition lock has a malfunction.
U102700: Chassis CAN bus OFF fault
A25408: The electric steering lock has a malfunction. There is a signal fault or the message is faulty.
C16887: Communication with the electronic ignition lock has a malfunction. The message is missing
U016887: Communication with the electronic ignition lock has a malfunction. The message is missing
U100800: LIN bus 1 has a malfunction.
C168: Communication with the electronic ignition lock has a malfunction
At this point, am I looking at a new EIS as well as ESL from my helpful dealer? Or is a different emulator/programmer an option at this point?
I would appreciate any advice on my next steps! TIA.

Sounds like a trip to the dealer. I may be wrong, but I think there may have been an extended warranty for the ESL.

Or a campaign. Not sure it applies to you.
