Glove Box Door, W209 (Not the latch) Entire door falls off

Hello,

I found a great video on youtube about how to fix the glovebox, but it was a C-class and a completely different style.

My 2003 CLK (W209) door slides into two tracks on each side with 1/4-circle tracks, but it does not stay up. It just falls down. There is some kind of spring/shock on the door side of the glovebox. Obviously I need to get that hooked up and possibly replace it first.

Any diagrams or advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Sixcarbs

Ok, here is where I am at.

I found some instructions on how to remove the glovebox door and it said to install in reverse, Fine.

My loose/removed door had the glovebox damper attached to it. It seems the damper gets installed first and THEN when you attach the door, you connect the bottom of the damper to the door. So I removed the damper from my loose door. I hope I did not mess up the pin too much.

But I am still having trouble connecting the damper to the inside of the glovebox.

The part of the damper with the yellow dot needs to go through a hole on the side of the glovebox, but it will not stay, it falls right out. Below that is a picture of a removed and closed glovebox from the side with the damper installed. It has a small white line on it.

So my question is, is the part of the damper with the yellow dot some kind of fastener I need to pop out of the damper and reinstall through the hole?

Thank you

Now I am taking a closer look at the picture with the damper installed and I am wondering if that is some sort of retaining cap/nut on the outside that I am missing??

I was able to obtain a new OEM damper, and you can see the difference. It's not that mine was missing a retaining clip. But it was clearly missing something.

I installed it today, along with a new stopper on the door side. Just wondering if I also need to replace the stopper (old and new pictured below) in the center console side.

Now I need to deal with the common misaligned latch issue.
