Need Opinions ASAP please: Conductor Plates for the 722.9 Transmission

I'm about to order a transmission service kit from FCP Euro for my 2013 G550, with 118k miles, and was wondering if I should replace the conductor plate. I watched a YT vid of a guy that said the local dealership wanted to charge him $3000 for the plate and the valve body, that they won't sell one without the other. Then it would have to programmed at the dealership for another $1500. Another dealership basically said the same thing- that they would sell the conductor plate without the valve body but it would have to be programmed at the their dealership. So he found a reconditioned one on eBay for way cheaper.

The kit is on sale only for another day at $1200 from its normal price of $1900. I'm thinking I should order it and keep it on hand even if I don't need to replace it with the transmission service I plan on doing. What do you all think? Or should I just replace the conductor plate while I'm doing the transmission service? TIA!!

Don't waste your money. Only on the older VGS 1 did you have to buy both together. In your case, you can buy the parts separately but don't buy one unless you actually need one.

Thanks for the advice and insight on the conductor plate/valve body. FCP didn't look like they sold the conductor plate as a stand alone unit. I haven't checked other online shops though. Basically, I'm looking at spending an extra $1000 for the plate over the kits without it. I have no idea if that's a good price or not, but with their regular price being $1900, I'm calculating that the plate would probably go for at least $1700 if purchased separately. I don't mind spending the the extra upfront if it'll save me 70%.

Do these conductor plates go out often? Is it usually at a certain mileage, like the reputation for Mercedes fuel pumps going out right at 120k miles? Thanks again gogdym!

They do go bad, but are not a "wear item" per say that you can predictably have go wrong. I have heard of ones breaking with 60k miles (and possibly less) and I know about 300k miles on others. If/when it breaks you can either send it out for repair or replace it then.
