For sale - 1988 560SEL - far NW Chicago suburbs
Selling the '88 560SEL from my father's estate. Car made the 400 mile trip from Minnesota to Illinois and blew a head gasket the next day. At least I think its a head gasket: milky white substance on the oil fill cap. Engine runs fine, but smokes heavily once warm. Compression test yielded 140 +/-5 on all cylinders. Trans replaced a few years ago by a Minneapolis MB dealer. I think Feldman was the dealer.
Details: about 140k miles. Smoke silver with brown interior. Interior is very good condition with no tears in the leather. Some cracks in the drivers seat but not through. Very clean. Body has some typical rust bubbles along the door guards and visible rust at the front of both fenders where they meet the front bumper. Some minor dings at various spots but the worst is minor dent/crease in the driver's door. Chrome wheels with a couple showing signs of flaking. P6 Pirellis nearly new.
I was going to repair the SLS which was dreadfully bouncy but when the head gasket failed I decided to just sell the car as-is. So I have a pair of accumulators, used but good condition SLS rear shocks, and 3 liters of Pentosin to go with the car if bought for repair.
I already have 5 cars stuffed into a 4 car garage. Thus no use for this one. If no one is interested in the car, let me know if you'd like to scavenge any bits as otherwise I'm selling to a recycler.
