I am really in love with this car, and me and my brother are seriously thinking about getting it, but we aren't sure if it's a real full on AMG or not. My general rule of thumb is "if the vin # can get you into the AMG Private Lounge, its a real AMG"

If your goal is to just get into the AMG lounge, go on Ebay, find a AMG for sale write down the VIN and go register.

I believe POS's w124 is a genuine AMG car. Anyone especially back then (and today too) can have their MB tuned, modified, and enhanced by AMG Affalterbach.
Judging from his pics, details, & records.... as well as documented history & literature regarding the existence of a variety of w124 AMGs as seen in Rudolph Heitz's and Thomas Neff's book, then I will give POS 100% benefit of the doubt.
Nice rare car you got there!

Not that I want to get into the middle of POS's sale...again, but in his defense, you can only verify AMG options on vehicles post 1992, you can not do this with older vehicles. I am 100% sure his VIN will not get you into the AMG lounge, but that does not mean his vehicle is not a true AMG, contact the owner and talk to him about it.

POS: Is there any way to prove that this car is a genuine AMG to my brother? I really want this car but I cant really blame him for being skeptical.

Keep in mind that AMG enhancements back then does not necessarily mean every single AMG option, component, or package will be installed on the car (it was more of a case by case or car by car basis… kinda like a la carte, if you can think of it that way). As you see in the photos, POS’ car has many major AMG components such as the 3.2 AMG engine, mechanicals, drivetrain, suspension, body cladding, etc… etc… but the interior did not get the full blown AMG treatment likely because it was a US version and the AMG upgrades were performed by AMG central in IL (history shows most 124 AMGs we see in photos were euro versions and thus received further interior AMG enhancements galore like AMG steering wheel, gauge cluster, etc...). Anyway, it looks like he has good documentation, pedigree records, and expert feedback that the car is a real w124 300E 3.2 AMG. Heck, the 3.2 AMG is even recognized in MB literature as I posted above (also look at the first pic where it states that the cover car was courtesy of AMG N.A. located back then in IL.).

This car would be in my garage if I did not already own 2 Sportlines, I would choose it over either Sportline. Seller's price is based on the weakened market and imo this car is worth his price even as a daily driver.
I appreciate POS for being a regular helpful poster here, and in my experience, scammers do not freely give / share their time to help others for years before unveiling their scams.

The real deal - a Hammer in 6-cyl clothing. Most everyone on this site already knows about this car, but I'd like to get it to a good home. Having two collectible AMGs just means that I have two cars that I don't drive often. Drives tight and fast, looks excellent, has only 68k miles on it while still getting 22 mpg highway. Not bad for a collectible!
Familiar with your posts on this vehicle when you purchased it.
Have you ever done a compression test and if so what are the readings.
Price is fair and I'm tempted.

I never had a compression test done. On a 68k mile engine, I just never deemed that process necessary. The oil pressure gauge behaves exactly as it should - it bumps up to the three at startup and at throttle, and when it's warmed up it'll sit in between 1-2 at idle.
As for the car being a real AMG, it is. I wouldn't have bought the car if I couldn't have proven that fact to myself in the first place. What started it was the Service Booklet - it stated "AMG-Central" as the original seller. So I emailed Richard Buxbaum (founder of AMG of North America in the '80s) and Hartmut Feyhl (AMG of NA's lead techncian) about the car, I showed them pictures, I asked them questions. They both confirmed the car was an AMG done by them - the greatest evidence was the welded ducktail (a Chicago-only thing) and the signature on the Service Booklet under "Salesman" was Dan MacNeil - AMG of NA's primary sales guy in Chicago. Add to that documentation the white coil springs, the body kit, the 3.2 badge, the second air inlet, talking to the previous owners, driving the car, etc. and I convinced myself that the car was a real AMG rather easily. Hell, I even found an AMG Road America Weekend tag under the seat - that tag was for Donald Byerly who was the original owner of the V8 Hammer currently owned by Jonathan of Blue Ridge AMG. My 3.2 was at that rally, as was my 1983 500SL AMG.
A few skeptics have popped up online, people who've never seen the car, people who know little about the '80s AMG days, who probably never even knew a 3.2 AMG engine could exist in the w124, and I've had to point to the evidence and illustrate why this car is real. But as a child of the '80s and the owner of three '80s AMGs, I think I've spent considerable time learning about the AMGs and what makes them real or what makes them fake. As far as I know, I'm the only guy who's found Richard Buxbaum in Chicago and talk regularly with him.
If you are interested in the car, you can email me at taav@comcast.net.
PS - I'm in the AMG Private Lounge and all three of my VINs were from '80s AMGs. From experience, I would say that the AMG Private Lounge has no way of knowing if the AMGs from the '80s are real or fakes. There was no record keeping done by Chicago on specific cars; I once asked Buxbaum that while praying he would reply "Sure! They're in my garage - want to come and get them?"

i noticed you ended your eBay auction early. Did it sell to a private party ?
Can you hold the car for me for 4 years, and I'll buy it then for $15K ???
