Angry 560SEC Shopping Gone Bad

There's a 1991 560SEC Eurospec that has been advertised in MBCA Star magazine for several months at $17,500/OBO. I emailed the seller a few months ago and the reply was "too busy. . . . . . will get back to me when I have time". I never heard back from the seller, so I emailed him again about 2-3 weeks ago inquiring again about his car. Same reply. . . . "too busy, . . . . Will get back to you when I can." So I waited. Was surprised when the seller finally called me at my office and we discussed the car, and he said he would send photos, etc.

Once he finally sent me the photos, I was even more interested in the car and began doing the research on it: ran an AutoCheck, CarFax, my regular dealer ran the VIN and confirmed it was in fact a true Eurospec. I emailed the seller and said I wanted to come out and look at it, and I tried to "recruit" some assistance from an MBCA member in the area the car was located in.
I had the date all set up, the seller emailed me suggested accommodations in the area, and I made my hotel reservations (which were about a week and a half after the seller finally got back to me). I emailed the seller and let him know of my hotel reservations.
Then the seller emails me and said that he had received, and accepted an offer on the car. I thought the car was $17,500 or Best Offer?!?! He never offered me a chance to try to beat whatever offer the supposed buyer had made!! I never once had the impression he was in a hurry to sell the car, I felt like the rug was pulled out from under me. What a VERY poor way of conducting business!! I am out some money through all of this. I personally think maybe he got cold feet about selling it, and that was the easy way out for him. It is still listed on the MBCA site online, so I don't know. It is what it is I guess, but I am just very confused!

As a side note, I am still looking for a pristine, well maintained, low mileage 560SEC! Preferably one with all the manuals, and as complete a service/maintenance history as can be had. Would prefer a darker color or silver. Would prefer a dark interior, but not a deal breaker. Perhaps I'm being too picky. . . . ?

Angry 560SEC Shopping Gone Bad Update

So I found out the guy still has the car, and sent him an email last night asking what the deal was. Is it sold, pending an offer, changed his mind about selling it?? I had hotel reservations, and rented a more economical car (thus also keeping miles off MY car) to go look at it this past weekend but cancelled because HE said it was gone and suggested I cancel my reservations. I could cancel the hotel, but could not cancel the rental car. And then to find out that I could have ended up looking at it this past weekend after all because he still has it??? He told me no one has actually come out to look at/inspect the the car yet, but he has had a lot of inquiries on it. I had inquired on this car over 2 months ago, but he was "too busy". Suddenly last minute he's in a mad rush to sell it, and is even willing to drive it to PA to show it to a prospective buyer?!?
Then this morning I get an email reply from the douche saying that he is driving the car to Pennsylvania for a prospective buyer who STILL has NOT seen the car, but he thinks the offer is sincere. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I typically won't make an offer on any car just based on photos! I wanted to see it to better assess it to make a reasonable offer.
He then said he could put me in touch with the guy in PA and I could negotiate a sale with him??? WtF??? THAT seller is going to want to make a profit, thus increasing the cost for me to buy the car! I hope the guy in PA makes him a lowball offer after seeing the car, then he's stuck with it. This whole process has been a total cluster F!!! I sent him an email this morning that I intend to be my final correspondence basically calling him out on this BS way of conducting business! Why does it have to be so friggen hard trying to negotiate/buy a car from someone??? Jeez!!!!!!
