1988 Mercedes 300SEL - $2500 / or trade (see details)

Hate to do this... and if someone doesnt bite soon, I will probably keep it and give it to my mom and sell the Lexus. (If this ad vanishes, then I have changed my mind, which I may very well do if it dont sell fast or if I can talk my mom into taking this car and l sell the Lexus, which I prefer).

1988 Mercedes 300SEL 4dr sedan - manufactured February 1988. As MB fans know, this is the W126 chassis with the long wheelbase, which is the same body style as the 420SEL 560SEL 300SDL and 350SDL. Car has a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder (gets 21 mpg in town), automatic, leather, sunroof, power windows, power locks, telescopic wheel, power seats, JVC stereo w/CD player etc.

No rust, very good shiney paint (repainted before), very good interior especially for a 1988 model (couple of dash cracks and very minor wearing on front seats, but nothing unattractive). 159K miles (approximately). I bought the car, it had 153K. Odometer stopped at 156K, as I was using the trip odometer and I reset it one day and it stopped working... speedo still works. Carfax will verify this car only had 153K last year, as will my posts when I bought it and mentioned it here. It has about 159K on it now... I only drive it twice a week.

New rear brake pads, fresh oil change with Delo oil and MB filter (super easy to change as M103 owners know), which is a plus!), fairly new Mercedes brand battery. I am going to replace the rear brake hose, as I have a brake that is slightly sticking and I was told this was the issue. I cannot think of anything else the car needs. This is a good running car - does not smoke or leak oil. Engine runs in normal temperature range, good heat, but A/C was only blowing cool toward end of summer. ALL power windows and locks work. Only things that do not work are the antenna (recently stopped), but the radio still works fine. Cruise does not work. Could use new tires... these still have good tread, but are aging. I would do an alignment as well when new tires were installed. Slight exhaust leak... still quiet, but not as quiet as it could be with the leak fixed. I think it sounds good though. Does not leak oil and does not smoke - engine runs in normal temp range. ALL lights work (gas guage is a little fussy, as it will occasionally dance around - easy fix I am told), etc. Trunk needs a new seal... common on these cars. Leaks a little water, but trunk is not standing wet with water. May need new antenna seal as well. Some of you may have noticed I mentioned that the right rear brake is sticking. I bought a new hose and it was the wrong one, but I am going to get a new one and replace and see if thats the issue. If not, its probably the caliper, but this needs to be addressed asap. Has the slight fluctuation at idle. Told thats simple as well, but I am not a DIY'er.

I hate to sell it, but I am needing a higher setting car to get my grandpa in and out of. This is not a low-riding car for most, but its lower than some cars my grandpa can get in/out of.

I am asking $3000 elsewhere (but I will take $2500 from a member here, someone that loves Mercedes) or will consider trading for a NICE 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994 or 1995 Lincoln Town Car (without the vinyl top option) or a 1991 1992 or 1993 Chevrolet Caprice Classic or maybe even a 1994 - 1997 Toyota T100 truck.

If I cant trade it, or get $2500 for it, I will just keep it OR try to talk my mother into selling the Lexus and buying this car from me.

Email/post here for more photos or details. I will post new photos soon.

Car is located in northeast Tennessee. (Originally bought new in Florida, then was in South Carolina and Georgia for a short while, now Tennessee. Undercarriage is rust free!

More photos on request..... (car is dirty in these photos)

Is $2500 too much for this car, or is money that tight?

I dont know much about the old ones but that one looks nice! I would pick it up as a driver if you were closer to Ohio.

Please delete ad.

WOW, I didn't know this was still on here. I was looking at pics on bing images for another car of mine and seen one of this car on there and it led me to this ad.

4 years later, the paint is starting to fade here and there, but the car is still going like new and has not gave us one little problem! Glad we kept it. Mom getting a new SUV in about 6 months, but we will probably still keep this one, its part of the family now. lol.

Funny thing is it is 4 years later and we still have this car! We decided to sell the Lexus (which was 4 years ago) and I gave this Mercedes to my mom and bought the Town Car I wanted a few months later in 2010 and have even since have picked up a '93 400SEL and won a new Honda in December!
