Whatever you do, don't work it as a trade deal. Start with a Car Max appraisal and use that as your bottom line. When I wanted out of my '08 STI, I found a local dealer that beat Car Max by a $1000.00, it cost me about $1300.00 out of pocket to do the payoff, but I didn't have to deal with tire kickers, taking people on test drives, ect..

Do it as a straight sale and then go find your replacement car, you will come out ahead in the long run, as you will not be re-financing any part of your payoff gap.
