1994 C124 E320 Coupe - 1975 W116 280S
FOR SALE: 1975 280S with 98k in NJ, USA for parts or great project

Hi guys. I'm selling my 280S because I can no longer have it as a project.

I bought it for $2200 in Lancaster, PA and I am the 4th owner.

It has 98k, and you can tell by minimal wear on the brake pedal, and the windshield, and the robustness of the engine, transmission, and the condition of the interior.

The car was originally owned by a stock broker in NYC, then it was sold in the 1980s to an old woman in Lancaster. She died and then was bought by the guy who I bought it from, who was a W116 enthusiast.

After some work, I drove it from 76k miles, which I bought it at, and drove it to 98k miles with no problems and regular oil changes using synthetic.

Condition:

Exterior:
-This is virtually a rust free car. there are a couple bubbles showing up behind the front turn signals and on 2 wheel rear wheel wells but that's kind of expected with the original body work. otherwise there are no major holes anywhere. The only hole is the common problem in the windshield drain and it does leak inside
-Paint is faded, and it needs a new paint job. Chrome can use polishing
-Panels are rock solid and everything lines up as it should, except the passenger front. May have been in a minor accident but the hood doesn't line up
-Party piece is that there's virtually no rust

Interior:
-THe other party piece: the MBtex is flawless. No rips, tears or scratches. Also, seats are still firm yet comfortable. No sagging
-Headliner is perfect
-Dash has two cracks in the middle but thats normal too
-Wood is still all there, with minor hair line cracks
-Door panels are mint
-Rugs are in good condition
-Door seals are fine, but may need replacing. they don't leak, they're just falling apart. Trunk needs it pretty bad, and water leaks into the trunk, so it could be the gasoline drain or the taillight seals

Mechanical
-Engine is in great condition. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY AND NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH THE PIERBURG BUILT, SOLEX DESIGN CARB. Not one issue and it's in amazing condition for the age.
-Transmission shifts smoothly and quick, there's no delay and no clunking
-No differential whine
-I did the following: new plugs, new ignition wires, ignition coil, replaced valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, repaired the idle vacuum pump, distributor cap and rotor, removed air injection but I will include the air pump in sale
-The engine leaks no oil, there's no compression issue, nada.
-I had to have the gas tank welded due to a hole that I have no idea where it came from
-Also has 2 1-year-old Bilstein HDs in the rear, fronts are original and should be replaced, but they function ok.
-Also had the big daddy control arms AND bushings replaced in the front (Have receipts for that)
-Brakes are bad. THey work but poorly. Needs new master cylinder, and probably new calipers
-And it needs a new exhaust

Features:
-Cruise control work 100%
-Sunroof, though somehow missing the wind deflector, works 100%.
-Driver window can get temperamental when it gets really hot out but otherwise they all work
-No central locking so no vacuum leaks to worry about
-Heating works, air con doesn't and the louvers aren't in the best shape, but the blower motor is perfect
-Radio works, aerial does not
-All lights work, odometer and entire gauge cluster works 100%

This car needs work but with that work, it will definitely be a a good restoration project or parts car.

I'm asking $2000 OBO, it runs and drives but doesn't brake too well. Cheesy. But seriously, I recommend anyone who buys it to flatbed it.

Here are pics, and videos I've taken over the ownership
