Agreed and I said this earlier. I wish the S212s would be posted in a separate thread-- it must be annoying for anyone who is subscribed to this thread via email or for other MBWorld.org members trying to sell their cars in the Classifieds because this 69+ page thread keeps getting bumped unnecessarily with S212s. I also wish people would list the VIN and mileage rather than just pasting the URLs that will eventually be broken. It is nice to be able to search this thread by VIN and get information on S211 E55/E63s that may be up for sale or catch cars that are being flipped.

Autotrader has 7 w211 AMG wagons listed as of today. That is the most I have ever seen. I interpret it as the cars are not selling, and the high advertised prices are perhaps attracting more sellers into the market. Autotrader search link: http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...bar=true&Log=0

It seems S211 AMG buyers are placing emphasis on mileage, color, condition, and options. Some low mileage cars are selling quickly and at strong values but there are some cars that are not that nice (like this example) that are priced above the market and they will not sell as quickly. I still think the S211 AMG market is strong for low mileage cars but any examples over 60,000+ miles are harder to sell-- and these cars will sit because serious buyers are betting on the odds lower mileage cars will surface.

This E63 Wagon is a wildcard regardless of what the price is. The Grey Leather is hardly ideal but some buyers might overlook the interior because of the low mileage and because it is Iridium Silver. I personally wouldnt have bought this car because of the interior but if it had a Black interior, I would have immediately purchased it for top dollar.

I interpret it as old listings previous owners never deleted after their cars sold. For example, this car should be removed from AutoTrader:

Price on the 51K mile '07 E63 seems rather, ah, optimistic. You tell me, but I assume the miles are not low enough to interest a collector? It's academic to me - I have no interest in anything with an m156 - but out of idle curiousity what do you think represents a fair price for this car? Any deduction to fix the hideous calipers and replace those awful aftermarket wheels?
Cheers.

Thanks for your response. That makes perfect sense on the silver E55 - it seemed a reasonable combination of miles & price for a good daily driver, so not surprising that it sold.

I have been watching the S211 AMG market very closely and there are enough documented sales to show that 60,000 miles is the threshold in value. When cars have less than 50,000 miles, buyers seem to be less discriminating about color, options, and price. In fact the quick sale of the Iridium Silver example at CNC Motors confirms this again and again. I suspect the mileage threshold for enthusiasts will steadily go up from 60,000 miles as lower mileage cars become harder to find-- and it will be then that the value of moderate/mid mileage cars will begin to stabilize (the trend in 500E values is a good example of this pattern). The S211 AMG is also expensive to maintain and there are very few people who will purchase a 70,000+ mile example to use as a daily driver unless its priced aggressively. I think the psychology of mileage thresholds has a lot to do with the way auto manufacturers structured maintenance and warranty intervals in America. Its no coincidence that generation x buyers fear buying a car with 60,000+ miles because most European car manufacturers made the 60,000 mile service a major interval and it was always the most costly. For example timing belts, spark plugs, O2 sensors etc. etc. were all typically done on BMWs at 60,000 miles during the Inspection II service in the 1980s-2000s.
Mileage shouldn't be everything but it is. Sadly there are more buyers who will pay a premium for a low mileage car with no service history than they will for a moderate-to-high mileage car that has impeccable service history. Secondhand buyers who expect to use a 70,000+ mile luxury car as a daily driver rarely budget for maintenance costs and they will defer all repairs and abuse the cars until they are beyond their mechanical limits. There is also a small subset of enthusiasts who will purchase moderate/mid mileage cars that are aggressively priced because their intention is to heavily modify them and they have already budgeted for those modifications but not for any preventative maintenance. This subset of owners will snap up the cars that are cheap, have accident history, no service records, or are in poor condition.
Its a waiting game for low mileage cars in the right color. The S211 E55 and E63 Wagon have reached cult status.

My wife had a coworker ask her about 6 months if we would sell. I said $30k would be a fair price and we were at about 49k miles on it. He told me that was to much. I told him to find one that was cheaper and in the same condition and mileage I am at. He still does not have one. They just sold one in the $40's most likely.
