E63 wagon
Hey I've looking at a 2009 E63 wagon on autotrader. I put down a deposit already. There is no warranty though. Given this shared interest can you suggest a way for me to further appraise the car?

Well, I'd start with the Carfax to make sure the vehicle has been serviced appropriately. Ask the seller if they have their service records. I would recommend you ask the seller to go to the local MB dealership and request a pre purchase full inspection that you'll pay for. Call the dealership and independently choose a Service Advisor. Inform them that you're looking to buy the vehicle and want to know its present condition mechanically and the appearance interior/exterior. Depending on the mileage and options the car contains I'd use Kelly Blue Book, Auto Trader, Cars.com to see what the trade in value is. Hopefully, your sales price is no more than 10% above the trade value. By the way, make sure you pay attention to the brakes. Seriously, because it runs about 3,500-4,000 to replace the brake pads and rotors. Some sellers don't like admitting the brakes haven't been serviced and its a hidden expense that can make owning the vehicle a lot more pricey and reduce the enjoyment of getting a new car in the driveway. I ran across an E63 sedan I was interested in, but, the seller refused to bring all the maintenance up to date. A big red flag for me….

The full inspection runs 99.00 and takes roughly 90 mins at most dealerships. Have the Service Advisor deliver the report to you and you alone. Once in hand if all is well feel confident you're acquiring a car that will last a long, long time. However, if there are any service recommendations try to work it into your "price" from the seller. Motor Trend also has a pretty good market value indicator to base your sales price on. Congratulations!!! I'm still on the lookout...
