I'm looking to pick up a diesel for my daily commute and perhaps even a trip taker. I have found a few, but they seem a little scarce in the Delmarva area. I'll drive to Philly, or across the bridge to Annapolis if necessary. Looking for something under $10k. Sedan, or SUV/wagon does not matter.

I would appreciate some thoughts on reliability, perhaps insight on models to stay away from, and general advice. I'm new to diesels.

 

What era diesel?

Are we talking CDI, Bluetec? Or W116/123/126 OM617?

I'm not really picky here. Anything post model year 2000 is fine. I have no idea what CDI, Bluetec or anything else means regarding diesels. I'm totally new to them. Thanks.

 

I've found a 2008 ML 320 CDI for around $13.5. However, after doing some research, I'm not getting a good vibe. People either love it, or really hate it. What I've read is that the people who do have problems, have a lot of problems. Is this a bad model in MB's lineup? I test drove it, and it was very nice. Am I reading too much into this?

 

I got a 2011 gas model. So far, so good. With fuel so cheap what the hell I figure.
