FS: 1997 RENNtech E60RS MINT

BACKGROUND

In 1986, a small specialist company in Germany made a big splash in the world of high performance cars by taking a mid-size sedan, putting a stonkin’ big motor into it, upgrading the brakes and suspension to keep pace (kind of) with the huge power increase, and turning it loose on the public.

The company was AMG, and the car was the now-legendary “Hammer.” 30 years later, the name still resonates with piston heads the world over.

Hartmut Feyhl was a member of the AMG team in Germany that developed the Hammer. He subsequently moved to the U.S. as AMG’s North American Technical Director. In 1989, he went out on his own and formed a new company dedicated to “performance without compromise,” initially almost exclusively for cars from Mercedes-Benz. As his company grew in expertise and resources, the idea of building a successor to the iconic Hammer that he helped conceive and develop became too strong to resist.

Feyhl’s company was RENNtech. His successor to the Hammer was a handcrafted engineering and styling masterpiece, the “E60RS.” Production was extremely limited, not a surprise given that the six liter motor alone cost $49,900. Around 12 E60RS cars were made using the dual overhead cam, four-valve heads from the E420 motor. Just one of them, the car presented here, was in white.

I can't recall doing a dyno run on the E60RS. The 420 HP comes from RENNtech. That has to be at the crank, as a magazine article I have quotes 327 HP at the wheels. It is torque that launches a car off the line, and the E60RS has plenty of that. This is a quick car, helped by the shorter final drive ratio of 3.06 from 2.82. Attached is a scan of an ad that the first owner was going to place in the DuPont Registry in the late summer of 1999. I think I bought the car before he actually got the ad in. It has more photos. I will add a few more photos to this thread.
