2006 C230 Sports Sedan with Comand MCS II
Ok I am confused. I thought these units had to be purchased directly from MB. How do the sellers keep getting the newest updates? I see these units on ebay from Japan and China advertising the 2008 software and also the 2009 software, but only say they will send you a hard drive with the current software on it. I thought this system was thousands of dollars and why do the sellers only ship you a hard drive with the software on it. Why don't they ship you the updated software package to you with the hardware? I read on mercupgrades that these are clones and are not the real thing and if the DAS recognizes an unlicensed or stolen unit it locks the unit out. Is this true? I want to buy one, but not willing to shell out the cash if I can only use it for a a certain period and not able to get updates. I mean I can buy a laptop anywhere, but 2,000 grand with a laptop is ridiculous. the laptops are refurbished 5 year old equipment. I can get one for 100.00 bucks. All you need is a laptop with a 9-pin serial port. You pay so much money I would think you get the whole package, which should include hardware and software for a descent price. If these are genuine then I understand the price. Anyone can sell hardware, but I want to know if these are genuine MB or not. Thank you for your help.

all i know is that i want one. If there is anyone with one in the LA area let me know. I want to bring my buddy from mercedes and have him hook it up to my car to make sure its the real deal. Seems like there is so much crap you have to strain through to make sure its good.

Save yourself the extra cash if you have a laptop.
You can just purchase the software and buy the chinese clone cables and you are good to go.
It can be installed on any laptop that has XP and 60 gig hard drive.
If you don't have XP and have vista don't worry. Get the software and cables and message me. I'll take care of it.

the reason that it's so much cheaper is beacause it is very limited in its capabillities compare to a compaq 4 sds. Good luck on you SCN coding lol. i work at a dealership and there is one particular local shop that thinks they can initialize valve bodies on 722.9 with their rinky dink software. needless to say it costs them significantly more when they fry the ETC.
our software updates on a monthly basis.
I'm not saying it's not a good deal. you can do very much simple diag with it. but don't expect to still be making trips to the dealership occasionally.

CORRECT!!!!! Yeah I'm a newbie on the forum, but been in the indy business for some time. I purchased the OE unit right from MB. Spent my hard earned cash, and ROI was within 1 yr. I'm suprised that this forum allows the sale of PIRATED software. I too would like to see the shops thinking that they are going to do their customers a favor and repair their vehicles with PIRATED software. Do you hang a banner out letting your customers know that you stole software from the same manufacturer that is keeping you in business? How are you going to program the modules needed when your machine is not SCN capable? Those of you that bring your vehicles to these shops, ask to see their equipment. If its not OE, run away. Contact MB and they can guide you to an INDY that has their unit within your area. If they stole from MBUSA, imagine what they are doing to you.
