More on ML55 Hitch
OK, so Draw-Tite (nor any other hitch mfgr) doesn't show a hitch for the ML55. Email msgs from their tech support says the 75087 hitch that is compatible with the ML320/350/430/500 will not fit the ML55.
I've re-examined the ML430 hitch, and compared its mounting to the ML55. Look at this page
http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/me...ffiliate=yshop
Now, I'm thinking it'll switch over.
The Draw-Tite hitch has 3 pieces, the receiver and 2 frame reinforcement brackets. The bottom pic on the above page is the frame reinforcement bracket installed. I looked at the ML55, and it already has reinforcement brackets. What I thought was a different frame design (channel rather than box) are M-B OE reinforcement brackets mounted. Does the ML430 (or any of the other MLs) have brackets of some sort where the Draw-Tite pic shows theirs?
I could take the M-B OE brackets off, and put the Draw-Tite pieces on, but don't think I need to do that.
Am I explaining myself?

why not just get a factory hitch? You can get em' for about 300 bucks. It lloks alot cleaner on the ML55 due to the different bumper cover. You can get em' at "formymercedes" dot com

The Draw-Tite hitch for the ML series fits without a problem on the ML55; just had it done today. The application guide lists the ML320/430/500, but not the ML55. I even called Draw-Tite, but they couldn't tell me one way or the other. It does fit.

I have draw tite 75087
fits fine. Mine is a 2002 ML55. Also, the electrical, I just bought it from them, the cheap one, works fine. Our cars don't have the complicated circuitry in the newer models, so works fine...you don't need the reinforcement pieces...the OE ones on the car are better.

Just take your time in trimming that middle bumper cover, so you have a nice looking finish.

nope
did nothing else except install this unit...seriously, our cars have an abundance of power, I don't think it will hurt anything.
I've pulled boats, jet skis, pairs of motorcycles...all no issues. the ML now has well over 100k miles, and no issues around trany/differentials.

Uhaul ml 430 will fit the ml55 yr 2000. You will need the five to four wire converter and tap into the tailights. 160.00 for hitch and 35 for converter. Torque all bolts with red thread locker.

I use my stock hitch all the time. My ML has become a workhorse since I sold my Durango. I just took my 2 nephews water skiing yesterday, pulled the boat about two hours, dropped in, took it back home. It is a great way to go in style although here in Missouri you do get a few odd looks.
