Well My weekend away got cut short by my ML...
I thought that I had run out of gas the other day, the ML would not start, the gas guage was on reserve, so I add more gas, and she started no problem. Well today, had about half a tank, and it would not start, no CEL, turned over fine, but nothing else. Tried off an on for about 15 min, called roadside assitance, then gave it one last shot...It started. Any Ideas?? :confuzed

Thanks Wolfgang, just wondering if a CEL would come on?
I have started the ml about 15 times since the no start, and she fired up every time right away.

Usually no CEL and it's a crank no start when the engine is hot. Originally Posted by phoenix44

Like my wife had to bring some friends to the airport. Drives her ML 2 miles
over to them, stops the car and chats for 15 minutes, then tries to
start the ML to go to the airport, and it wont start. She got to drive their 7 series instead.

Thanks for the clarification Wolfgang. I will be off to my dealer's parts dept. in the morning.Originally Posted by Wolfgang

This happened to me tonight at Costco.
Tried starting the car but the ignition kept on going and going by itself....the car did NOT start.
Tried a few more times....no luck.
Finally waited a few minutes...then tried again...it worked....but now CEL is showing on my dash.
Got home....and scanned with OBDII scanner....showing P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Malfunction.

I had the same issue, very random no starts when hot. I searched the forums and saved TONS or time and money. I got the crank position sensor from autohausaz for less than $75 shipped second day. The dealer wanted over $150 for the same part and I figured I could last 2 days.
Two things, get a heavy blanket or something to put over the engine while you are on top of it swapping the part out, it'll save your knees. And I didn't read this tip anywhere but I figured it out on my own, I put some goop/glue on the socket to hold the bolt in place while I reinstalled the sensor. This allowed me to concentrate on getting the bolt worked into to proper position to reinstall and not worry about it dropping out and having to fish for it.
Also, they say to get a 6" 1/4 socket extension. I used that and another shorter extension. The additional length helps.
