Need to find catalytic converter

Hello everyone,

The right side catalytic converter from my daughters 2001 ML55 broke up, so I need to find replacement part. The car has over 100000 miles so it doesn't have valid emission warranty any more.

Some Part Shops say that catalytic coverter for ML430 will fit. Others say it won't. Does anyone know for sure?

Where can I find the right one for ML55 somewhere cheaper than dealership (1500, part alone)?

The car and my daughter is in Washinton D.C and I live in Finland, Europe so I really appreciate any advices.

Thank you in advance,
Marko Nuutinen

..........don't worry. Any good muffler shop can replace your CATS. You don't need an MB part. You can even upgrade to two high flow CATS for under $600 including labor. Had this done to my W210 E55 last week.

Emisson tests?

Will the car with those free flow cats pass emisson tests? The idea about upgrading sounds otherwise great.

.............Yes. This is a pretty common modification. This is my second one. To answer your question specifically, the first set passed emission test without an issue. I just now changed to even higher flowing CATS. If performance is not your issue, the passing of emissions is not a problem, you can choose ones with lower flow rates to be certain. But even the higher flow ones are designed to pass emissions. No point in making high flow CATS that won't pass emissions.........because in that case the customer might as well do away with the CATS altogether.
