IPOD troubles with ML63...

I have a super old ipod (3rd generation) which works with the system, but I get crackling and sounds (like a hard drive spinning) that are coming from my tweeter - If I put the volume up high enough then it doesnt bother me, but on low settings you can definetly hear it.

So I thought it was the ipod and I went out today and bought a brand new ipod and then loaded it up with my music... well it doesnt sound as bad, but there is still is a "spinning" or "whirring" sound coming from the tweeter only when the ipod is playing (sounds great with radio or sirius). Also it seems that vocals are only coming out of the right side of the car?

anyone know about this, how do your ipods sound?

No idea what that could be Zack... I haven't heard anything like that on mine.

I'd have my dealer look at it when you take it in for your 1000 mile inspection.

Is it with all songs? Do you still hear it if you pause a song? Is the EQ flat on the iPod? Try endoding a song with Apple Lossless Encoding and see what happens.

how do you do apple lossless encoding?

-I tried it with a nano today and the whining is gone, but the music is coming 95% from the right side of the car... VERY little sound from the left.

yeah I dont want to give the car to anyone for a while, so if I cannot resolve it then I'll wait for the 1000 mile and tell them.

Are you on a Mac or PC? It’s usually in the preferences, advanced, importing, apple lossless. But that won’t fix the whining. The whining is disturbing because the regular iPods have a disk drive and the nano is flash memory. So it seems like the spinning from the hard drive is causing the whining. If it's engine noise MB is going to have to somehow filter the noise. The 95% thing is weird, if it on every song with both iPods that has to be a connection thing.

yeah the sound was similar to a hard drive, it improved with the new ipod, and thats why i tried the nano - flash works better.

do you use a regular ipod with no hard drive sound though the tweeter?

--regardless of that, your are right, there must be a connection issue, the nano was borrowed with a completly different music library and settings and still the problem persisted with the left side persisted

thanks for all your help

Hi all,
I'm not a native English speaker, sorry about that in advance...

I had a kind of the same problem after removing my music CD from the CD changer. So, I did put the CD back and noise is gone. This is strange but you should try it.
