Dyno Mode and other menus
Firstly dyno mode as used by Tiff in the 5th Gear video. It took me a while to get the hang of the procedure, but eventually I managed to access the 'service menu' and set the ESP Dynamometer Test mode.
Let me save you the bother of trying this. In dyno mode the PAS and ABS systems are 'switched off', so the ML becomes very heavy to steer and all but un-driveable at slow speeds. Also the engine seems to be very hesitant at low revs, so it's not exactly primed for a burn-out. I drove it in this mode for a few hundred yards then quickly returned it to normal.
Secondly I read about an 'upshift mode' for when driving in 'M'. You need to first select the menu display using the left-side of the multi-function wheel that shows which gear you are in and what the engine temperature is. Then just drive off as normal, when you accelerate and reach within a few hundred RPM away from 7200rpm the whole upper quadrant of the computer display turns RED. It doesn't seem to flash or anything, just glows bright red and the words 'UP' are placed adjacent to the gear number indicator.
Again, not terribly useful since by that point it's pretty obvious that it's time to change up a gear, but it kept me amused for a while.
