Picking up our ML63 tomorrow...

trading in our SLK55 for it. I sure will miss it, many good memories
but im sure there will be more to come with the ML63

im not familiar with the any of the MLs and what comes standard on what model and stuff like that, but i'll tell you the options: its obsidian black/black interior, rear seat entertainment, lighting package, comfort access, electronic trunk, and ipod adapter.

test drove one today and i love it.
i havent really heard much about them...im sure they're faster then the SLK55,or they not? what are the fastest quarter miles you have seen for a stock ML63?

Congratulations

Congratulations
I think you will be happy. The quickest tested 1/4 mile time I've seen is 13.0 and 4.5 0-60 by road and track. I've also seen 13.3 and 4.8 or so. See the earlier thread! It should be about as quick in a straight line as the new SLK 55 AMG. The 7 speed tranny gives lots of go at low speed. I suspect it won't handle as well. But you tell us!

Please let us know how you like the drive once it's broken in. I hope you have the active bi-zenon headlights. They are fantastic to drive with.

It definitely won't be faster than an SLK55 in a straight line and definitely not around the twisties. The SLK55 has better power to weight ratio than the ML63 and even according to published media testing, for example car & driver, the SLK55 has done 0-60/1/4 mile sprints of about 4.3/12.8 secs while the best published for the ML63 is about 4.5/13.1 secs. That isn't to say the ML63 isn't just as fun in its own way. There's definitely the nice novelty of having a large, practical, and heavy awd vehicle that can pull as hard as many sports cars. I test drove one too... and I loved it enough to want to trade my 06 M5 for one which I will probably do very soon. Congrats on the new ride!

The fastest cars I see in your sig are the 996 GT3 and E60 M5, with the slight edge to the M5 in the top end. The ML63 could easily take honors as the third fastest car in your stable.... not a bad proposition considering it can haul some cargo, drive through mountain passes, and tow heavy trailers around

I have yet to race my brother with the E60 M5 and GT3. It will be a pretty good race. The M5 obviously seems like it will have more top end due to its horsepower but the GT3 is really light and fast on acceleration. We're going to try to race from a roll sometime.

Oh and I think the Maserati would still beat the ML63 in a 1/4 mile, but I can't be exactly sure. I know though, that the Bentley and the ML63 would have to compete for third place The Bentley IS heavy however...so we'll see...

I already have one question about the car..

Can the DVD player play the audio through the car speakers? If not, what accessory would you need?

unfortunately, we didnt end up getting it due to some last minute problems. we are just going to keep the SLK55 a bit longer since we felt bad that it's hardly being used and we're just letting go of it, plus, of course that are more (minor) problems
