Sub-par interior?

Hello all. Let me begin by saying that I absolutely love the ML63... so much so, that I'm soon going to place an order for an '08. However, I need to vent a bit. Does anyone else feel that the interior of the ML (any engine range) is a bit too plastic looking? I like the upgraded dash in full leather, but the doors are horrible. Aside from the leather insert, the whole thing is hard, cold plastic! I don't expect it to be leather (although it would be nice), but at least MB could've used a higher quality, leather-looking, soft plastic, like that used in the current C-class. I mean, I saw a ML350 in the showroom, and was a bit shocked at how cheap the interior looked. The dash is all hard plastic, as are the doors and many other components. I can't seem to get over it. I'm not doubting that the drive and dynamics are typical MB, but I feel that they are regressing as far as interior quality is concerned. Compare it to any BMW or Audi -- they still use plastic, but it appears more authentic and feels good too. It's not hard and cheap looking. Anyone else feel the same way?

i couldn't agree w/ you more.

we just got a CPO 03 Lexus LS430 Ultra Luxury for $33k for my father-in-law and the inside felt like a milion dollars. the only MB interior that could top it would be a S500 Designo or the V12 cars. imho, new MBs are over-priced for how much short-cut they've taken to make these units for the lowest possible cost.

the good news is that because of the inferior quality/perception of MBs the past 5 yrs, i can buy MB's for 65%+ off MSRP just by waiting 3 yrs. for example, for $28k obo on a 2004 E500, even though the interior is bad for $68k car, at that price it's better than buying a new camry or accord

My service dealer gave me a New C-class as a service loaner. I can't say I like the doors better than the ML. I would agree that the interior could be better but I feel the ML63 is pretty good value. A 08 ford, chev or GM pick-up loaded is 80k+ tax-in and don't come close to the ML63. I've seen all three. Maybe this could be another item to add to a potential future wish list thread we need! It of course isn't even close to the SL interior but then neither is the price. The carpet and roof liner is inferior and of course all the plastic

You can order the Designo Packages which have better interiors.
