Satellite Radio install

So I have managed to get all the factory parts for SIRIUS radio for my ML63. I had my ML in the shop today for some minor door trim replacement as it was making some wind noise at 120km/h and I figured as it was there, they could install it.

They told me it would take about 10-11 hrs to install and at a shop rate of $125hr.......what a ripp off.

Just wondering if anyone else has had one installed afterwards and how long did it take? 2-4hrs I would presume.

WOW. How in the world did you managed THAT? My local dealer was no help as they can't find any part numbers needed, they don't have them in the system. Plus when they tear open my rear hatch to fix a stuck hatch, they confirmed to me my car wasn't pre-wired for the SAT radio, there was no antenna or wiring for the antenna there.

IF the car is pre-wired, I can see a easy install: open the top cover to install the antenna, plug into the wire harness, close the lid, install the SAT module, plug in the harness, program the head unit, done.

Since the car is not pre-wired, they had to take the headliner off to route the harness, and that's a big job.

yeah they were talking about removing the headliner. Still 11hrs for a sat install....plus the 800 i paid for the parts was bad enough.

I guess we can call it crack radio.

looks like you will be the first one to retrofit the sat radio let us know how it turned out.

11hrs labour + the parts > $2000, actually that's not bad, I paid that much to have sat radio retrofit to my 997TT.

Good for you to make the effort to find out what's needed and gathered all the parts, I might have to ask you for the list and do the samething for my ML63, now that you pecked my interest again.

He had is shipped receiver shipped to me from the US and the wiring came from Germany.

I will try to have it installed next week with a buddy here in town if not then I will take it up to my buddy at Installation Station in Red Deer.

Damn XM or Sirius in the 997 shouldn't be more than $1200 installed w/parts

Only in the US, and my $ quoted is CAD$. We Canadians always gets the shaft from Porsche, last year when I ordered the Sirius module locally, Porsche Canada won't transfer it from the US warehouse, I had to have my local dealer contact a US dealer to order it and then have them overnight it over here. With the exchange rate back then, it all costed me over $1500CAD to physically get the module into the local dealership, then another 5hrs of epensive Porsche labour tacked on top.
