Back Door Seals

While driving my 2002 ML55 I noticed that the back door areas sounded loud like significant wind noise. My other MBs are very quiet and at first wrote it off to the fact that it is considered a light truck. However when I was washing the car the other day I noticed something very unusual to me. The front doors have rubber seals that go around the entire door. But the rear doors have what appear to be just half seals. I mean the seals only go around the upper half of the door not the lower half. I also noticed that in the door jams around the area of the strikers there is significant road dirt, consistent with missing seals, not as in the front where the door jams are almost spotless. Is this the way they were built or is my ML missing back door seals?

I think its ALL ML's. Even new ones. I have an ML63 and the back doors are the same way. And theres is quite a lot of windnoise. Especially at speeds above 80 MPH...also. I dont know if this is the same on your car, but on your car, do you notice any wind noise coming from the tailgate area?

I haven't noticed any real noise from the rear and when I looked the seals appear to go around the hatch. Most of the "wind sound" is coming from the doors and apparently it is allowing dirt, roadgrime to accumulate on the striker side doorjam. The noise is quite apparent after 60 mph.

I meant you can start hear whistling above 80 but yes some wind noise is noticeable around 60...but it doesnt help that the drivers door has been replaced. (On ours)
