My cheapest repair ever for the ML
Well long story short:
I had been seeing a couple drops of power steering fluid on the garage floor every morning.
I took the ML into the local MB dealer for the scheduled maintainence and got the bad news: "The power steering pump is shot, $1700 to fx it. That is definately the problem".
I decided to wait and in the meantime took it in for the new springs and shocks, again bad news. "Your power steering rack is shot, it's gonna be around $3000 to fix it. I've worked on these cars 17 years and it is definately the problem ".
Obviously a conflict.
I posted on here about it and got a response to check the hoses. Yesterday I started it up and went to pull out, no power steering at all. All the fluid was on the floor. Obviously I freaked out and then got a light to see if I could spot the problem. Sure enough the small hose that looks like it goes into the radiator had popped off. $.38 and 10 minutes to fix. I degreased everything and there is no leak anymore, not a drop. I wish I could get $1700-$3000 to put on a hose clamp at my place of business.
Thanks for the reply about checking the hose, it was dead on. These forums really come in handy. I'm new to the Benz world but the Porsches have been repaired numerous times with information from Pelican.

nice, glad to hear it wasnt major... in defense of the shops... its usually best to qoute high and deliver cheap rather then quote cheap and deliver high...
believe me, they dont want to replace that steering rack anymore then you dont want them to... on the other hand... if they didnt warranty that hose, they would of charged you about 150 to fix it... lol
