ML55 Question

I recently bought an '02 ML55 and have a couple of questions for the experts:

1) Idle stays around 1200rpm after cold start for about 10-15 sec. and then settles down into normal range. Is that normal? None of my other Benz' do that ...

2) Front end/suspension 'creaks' when driving slowly over uneven surface and when accelerating. Any ideas what that could be? It's driving me nuts!

3) Fuel gauge shows empty - tank is full though ...

Thanks for any advice you could give me on this.

1 - Normal
2 - Torsion rod bushings are probably the culprit
3 - Fuel sending unit, cluster, or software update, that one will need some diag!

I had the exact problems

My 2002 ML55, exactly the same.

1. normal
2. I didn't fix this, just turned radio volume higher.
3. Replaced fuel sending unit, and fixed (around 2-300 bucks)

Sounds like my 01!!!

(1) Same

(2) I had a lot of my noise from a metal plate in the back that protects the fuel line. It is screwed to the body and the frame and makes a snapping noise when accelerating or decelerating. I took it off and used some pvc spacers from Lowes. It fixed it. That one had me worried, it was really obvious. These are frame on body vehicles and are subjet to more noise but they are a great truck.

(3) Mine reads empty when full until it's an 1/8th down, then it works normally.

(4) Check your power steering hose. Mine had a slow leak the dealer diagnosed as a bad pump / $1700. When the front shocks were going on I was told the rack was bad and it would be $3000. The next week I went to pull out and I had no power steering and all the fluid was on the floor. A .38$ hose clamp fixed it.

(5) You might start reading threads on doing your own brakes and rotors, you will become familiar with a brake guy unless you do it yourself. It's easy.

If I had paid $65K plus these things would be unacceptabe. For $20K/ no problem. I just towed an 18' ski boat and took my wife, son, granddaughter out for the day Sunday. They are really cool really fast terrible gas mileage trucks. I love mine.

Enjoy it

Steve

1) Idle stays around 1200rpm after cold start for about 10-15 sec. and then settles down into normal range. Is that normal? None of my other Benz' do that ...NORMAL:

2) Front end/suspension 'creaks' when driving slowly over uneven surface and when accelerating. Any ideas what that could be? It's driving me nuts! MINE DID THAT UNTIL I REPLACED THE OEM SHOCKS WITH BILSTIENS, NOW I DON'T HEAR IT ANYMORE:

3) Fuel gauge shows empty - tank is full though ...MINE DISPLAYS OK UNTIL I FILL THE TANK THEN THE NEEDLE IMEDIATELY GOES TO EMPTY AND THE LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT COMES ON, AFTER DRIVING A 100 MILES OR SO IT STARTS TO READ (SOMEWHAT) ACCURATELY AGAIN, I JUST RESET THE TRIPODMETER EVERY TIME I FILL UP AND NEVER LET IT GO BELOW 1/4 TANK PRICE TO FIX WAS $400+
