Flashing the ECU? What is it exactly? Does it work?

I just bought a used 2007 ML63. I wanted to see what I could do to eliminate the 150 MPH speed limit. Anyone have any suggestions or positive experiences here with flashing the ECU? What does that entail and how much should I expect to pay? If someone has some experience or a place to recommend that does it in Los Angeles area, please let me know. Also, how does it improve gas mileage?

What about air flilters, does that really improve performance and which ones would I be looking to change on the ML 63?

Also, debadging, what is your opinion? I am leaning towards doing it.

We have done a few ML63s here in San Diego, we use the RENNtech ECU upgrade which provides a 33hp gain and 30 lb-tq and moved the speed limiter up to 186 mph.

We have the equipment to flash your car in house, so if you would like to make a trip down to us in SD, we can set you up with a tee-time if you golf, an we'll take care of the ECU while you plan the links.

We can also make arrangements to come up to LA, as long as gas is covered.

Please let me know.

James

I recommend Powerchip tuning for the ML63, they did a great job on mine. You can get one through Hyevon Motors in Westminster.
The Powerchip has the biggest gains so far on the ML 63 specifically.

Flash ECU

How much should I expect to pay? How does it impact fuel consumption? Does it void the warranty?

I recommend Powerchips also. Their website is in my sig.

Expect to pay around the $1K mark or more. Normal driving it will increase fuel economy...if you test the performance aspect your fuel economy will lower dramatically though It does void your ECU warranty, so keep it hush hush.
