2002 ML55 Buying Advice

Looking at a 2002 ML55 at a very attractive price (under $15k).
I've read some of the previous threads but wanted to get an update from folks here on what they think about this SUV.
Too many problems?
It's got 90k on it.
Thanks!

Anyone?
Again, would really appreciate some feedback.
Or at least any suggestions on what to look out for when taking out for a test drive?
Thanks!

Hi.
I have a 2001 ML55
As far as I know the 01 and 02 are the same.
I only have less than a year with it, mine has almost 60,000 miles on it.
I had to replace the instrument cluster once since got into a short circuit and stop working at all.
I replace the shocks for Bilsteins and the feeling got a lit better, with the OE shocks it feels like a truck, not a sport SUV.

To be honest with you, I like the feeling that the X5 (with sport package) gives better than the ML55, but the ML55 gave you much more power, and looks and finishes are way better in the Benz.

What to look for?
-Front seats not to be worn out
-Suspesion, check shocks, axles, bushings
-Previews Mantainances

Try to look for more options. Maybe you will find a better deal.

Be ready.... they are very Thristy girls!

Good luck

Road Racer,
Whew, finally a response! Thanks!
Interior is dirty but not worn. It's the Designo edition with matching carpets.
Any options to look for?
Thanks!

Options??
Well, as far as I know this cars didnt came with many options to choose from, they are very loaded with options stock.
The best year was the last one (2003), major diferences is the climate control, mine as well as 2002 didnt came with automatic climate controls... The A/C is really cold, and it is almost imposible to leave it ON all the time....you will have to go on and off all the time. With the automatic climate control its diferent...

Did you test drive it yet??
Try to see if everything works like it suopused to

Open the sunroof, and see if it looks and works quietly. mine does a little bit of noise.

Good luck and let me know if there is anything else I can help you with

2002 ML55 has a nicer temp gauge

I have owned both a 2001 and a 2002 ML55 and the temp gauge in the 2002 is a bit nicer than the 2001. What to look for is the Power steering Reservoir leak. Also make sure that they have replaced the Power Steering hose from recall. Also the Front headlights in the 2002 are nicer then the 2001. 2002 comes with the projectors HID lights. I think you can go lower on the price of the car. I bought mine over 6 months ago with 86k miles on it and paid way way under 15k. One thing is that you will definitely enjoy the power of the ML55 on the highway, this thing will just pull and pull and pull. Next thing you know you will be in the triple digits.

Thanks for all the info.
I picked up the ML three days ago and it's been in my garage getting cleaned and tuned up. Leatherique, changing all filters, cleaning MAF, plugs, etc.
As soon as I get it up and running again I'm going to have the trans serviced. Then I should be good to go.
